GST invoice format for a watch shop (watch and clock showroom)
A watch showroom bill must identify each timepiece precisely, because the invoice and the warranty card go together. Wrist watches of headings 9101 and 9102, clocks of 9105 and watch straps and bracelets of 9113 are all taxed at 18%, and the September 2025 changes did not alter this. The invoice should show brand, model or reference number, case serial number, movement type, warranty period and, separately, any battery replacement or repair work done at the counter.

Extra fields a watch shop invoice needs
Model or reference number
Watch brands identify every design by a reference number. Printing it confirms exactly which model was sold and matches the invoice to the brand's warranty records and to the distributor's purchase bill.
Case serial number
Most branded watches carry a serial number on the case back. Recording it on the bill protects against counterfeit claims, supports insurance for high-value watches and identifies the watch in a theft complaint.
Movement type
Quartz, automatic and smartwatch movements differ in price and service needs. Stating the movement on the bill avoids disputes about what the customer was sold and guides later service.
Warranty period and card
Brands offer one or two years of warranty, sometimes extended on registration. Printing the warranty period and noting that the card was stamped saves time when the watch comes back for service.
Strap or bracelet material
Leather, steel, silicone and precious-metal bracelets vary in price. Recording the strap material helps with replacement requests and explains the value when a case of precious metal is involved.
Repair or battery line
Battery replacements and repairs are done at the counter. Showing them on separate lines from new watches keeps service income distinct and makes the rate on each line clear.
Standard GST invoice fields
Rule 46 of the CGST Rules applies to every tax invoice, including this one:
✓Supplier name, address and GSTIN
✓Consecutive invoice number (max 16 characters, unique for the year)
Notification 9/2025-Central Tax (Rate) lists wrist watches, pocket watches and stop watches with a case of precious metal under 9101 and other watches under 9102 in the 18% schedule, along with other clocks under 9105 and watch straps, bands and bracelets under 9113. The rationalisation of September 2025 did not lower watch rates, so most of a watch shop's range is at a single rate. A watch with a gold case is still a watch under 9101, not jewellery under 7113, and is taxed at 18% rather than the 3% jewellery rate, a distinction that matters for showrooms selling luxury watches next to jewellery.
Smartwatches and fitness bands
Smartwatches and fitness bands are sold in watch showrooms but are often classified differently from conventional watches because their main function is communication or data. Many are treated as apparatus for transmission or reception of data under heading 8517, which is also at 18%, so the rate is unaffected, but the HSN on the invoice should follow the classification used by the brand or importer. Keep the manufacturer's HSN on the item master and do not copy 9102 onto every device just because it is worn on the wrist. Check this when adding new brands.
Battery replacement and repairs
Battery replacement at the counter combines a goods element, the cell, and a small service element, the labour. When the shop charges a single price for fitting a battery, the supply is usually treated as a composite supply with the battery as the main element; when labour is shown separately, it is billed as a repair service under the maintenance and repair group of services with its own rate. Repairs under brand warranty are usually reimbursed by the brand, and the shop should bill the brand, not the customer, for those.
High-value sales and payment rules
Luxury watch sales can exceed two lakh rupees. Outside GST, section 269ST of the Income-tax Act prohibits receiving two lakh rupees or more in cash in a single transaction, and Rule 114B requires the buyer's PAN for a sale of goods above two lakh rupees. If the watch is delivered to another state, IGST applies and an e-way bill is needed when the consignment value crosses fifty thousand rupees. Showrooms should therefore have PAN, payment-mode and delivery-address fields in the invoice format for such sales. Keep copies of the PAN and payment proof with the invoice.
Common billing mistakes

✕Charging the customer for repairs that are covered by the brand warranty and should be billed to the brand instead.

Watch shop GST invoice: FAQ
What is the GST rate on wrist watches?
+
Wrist watches are taxed at 18%, whether under heading 9101 (case of precious metal) or 9102 (other watches). Clocks, watch straps and bracelets are also at 18%. The September 2025 rationalisation did not change these rates. Watch batteries sold separately are also at 18%.
Is a gold watch taxed like gold jewellery?
+
No. A watch with a gold case remains a watch under heading 9101 and is taxed at 18%. The 3% rate applies to articles of jewellery under chapter 71, not to watches. Bill gold-cased watches at the watch rate even if they are sold in a jewellery showroom.
Do I charge GST on watch battery replacement?
+
Yes. The battery cell is taxable at 18% and the labour for fitting it is a repair service. A single price for fitting a battery is usually treated as one supply. Show it on a separate line from any watch sold so that sales and service are clear.
What HSN code applies to a smartwatch?
+
Smartwatches are often classified under heading 8517 as apparatus for communication of data rather than under 9102. The rate is 18% either way. Use the HSN shown on the manufacturer's or importer's invoice, and keep a note of it in your item master.
