GST invoice format for a drip and sprinkler irrigation dealer
Drip and sprinkler irrigation systems of heading 8424, including laterals, and nozzles for drip or sprinkler systems are taxed at 5% under Notification 9/2025. A dealer's invoice therefore needs a system-wise break-up: laterals by metre and dripper spacing, sprinkler heads, filters and fittings, the field area covered, crop spacing, and whether installation is included. Where the farmer claims a micro-irrigation subsidy, print the application number, survey or khasra number and the design sanctioned for that plot.

Extra fields a drip irrigation dealer invoice needs
Field area and crop spacing
Subsidy and system design are worked out per hectare and per crop spacing. The invoice should state the area irrigated and the lateral spacing used.
Lateral size, dripper spacing and discharge
A 16 mm lateral with 4 lph drippers at 40 cm is a different product from inline 12 mm laterals. These details let the farmer check what was laid in the field.
Survey / khasra number of the plot
Micro-irrigation subsidy is tied to a particular plot. Writing the land record number on the bill links it to the farmer's file.
Subsidy application number
Departments release subsidy against the dealer's invoice and an installation certificate. The application number on the bill avoids mismatch.
Installation and design charges
If the dealer lays the system, the labour line should be shown, and the bill should say whether the supply is goods with incidental installation or a separate service.
Warranty on laterals and filters
Manufacturers give warranties on laterals and filters. Printing the period helps the farmer claim replacements.
Standard GST invoice fields
Rule 46 of the CGST Rules applies to every tax invoice, including this one:
✓Supplier name, address and GSTIN
✓Consecutive invoice number (max 16 characters, unique for the year)
GST rules that matter for a drip irrigation dealer
Drip, sprinkler and nozzles at 5%
Schedule I of Notification 9/2025-Central Tax (Rate) covers two entries under heading 8424: nozzles for drip irrigation equipment or for sprinklers, and sprinklers, drip irrigation systems including laterals, and mechanical sprayers. Both are at 5%. Hand pumps and their parts of heading 8413 are also listed at 5%. When a dealer bills a complete system, the main components clearly fall in these entries, but fittings such as PVC pipes, valves or electrical starters have their own headings and must be checked separately before applying 5%.
Supply with installation: decide composite or separate
A drip system is often sold with laying and commissioning. When installation is incidental and naturally bundled with the system, it is a composite supply whose principal supply is the goods, taxed at the goods rate. When the dealer charges a separate installation contract, or installs a system the farmer bought elsewhere, the labour is a service taxed under its own heading. The invoice should make the arrangement clear.
Subsidy does not reduce the taxable value
Micro-irrigation subsidy is paid by the government under a scheme, sometimes directly to the farmer and sometimes to the dealer on the farmer's behalf. Either way the taxable value is the full price of the system. Where the dealer receives part of the price from the department, the invoice is still raised on the farmer for the full value, with a note of the amount to be received under the scheme.
Stock transfers and e-way bills
Drip laterals move in rolls on trucks from the manufacturer's depot to the dealer and then to the farm. A consignment of taxable goods above Rs 50,000 needs an e-way bill. For a big farm order delivered in several trips, the dealer can raise one invoice and move goods under delivery challans with e-way bills for each trip.
Common billing mistakes
✕Charging 5% on PVC mains and electrical items just because they are part of the drip order, without checking their own headings.
✕Billing only the net amount after subsidy and paying GST on that, instead of on the full system price.
✕Not separating installation labour from goods when the dealer has a separate installation contract.
✕Omitting the khasra number and field area, which the subsidy officer needs to match the bill to the field.
✕Delivering in several trips without delivery challans or e-way bills for each trip.
Drip irrigation dealer GST invoice: FAQ
What is the GST rate on drip irrigation systems?
+
Drip irrigation systems including laterals, sprinklers and mechanical sprayers of heading 8424 are taxed at 5%. Nozzles for drip and sprinkler systems are also 5%.
Is installation of drip irrigation taxed at 5%?
+
If installation is part of a composite supply where the drip system is the principal supply, the whole is taxed at 5%. A separate installation service contract is taxed at the rate for that service.
Do I charge GST on the subsidised portion?
+
Yes. GST is on the full price of the system. The subsidy is a payment of part of the price by the government and does not reduce the value of supply.
What HSN should be used for a screen filter?
+
A filter supplied as part of a drip irrigation system is generally billed under 8424 along with the system. A standalone filter sold for other uses may need its own heading, so describe the use on the bill. When in doubt, bill it within the system price as a component of the drip set rather than as a loose accessory.
Can a drip dealer use the composition scheme?
+
Only if all supplies are intra-state and turnover is within the limit. Dealers that supply large projects or across states usually stay in the regular scheme.
