Extra fields a agricultural implements manufacturer invoice needs

Model and serial number
Each implement carries a serial number. Dealers, farmers and banks financing the purchase rely on it for warranty and loan records.
Working width and tractor HP
Show working width and the recommended tractor horsepower. Farmers buy implements to match their tractor, and dealers check this before delivery.
Agricultural use declaration
Some machines, such as trailers, are at 5% only when designed for agricultural use. A clear description supports the concessional rate.
Subsidy scheme reference
Implements bought under state or central farm mechanisation schemes often need the scheme or sanction number on the invoice. Without it, the subsidy can be delayed.
Dealer and farmer details
When the sale is through a dealer, invoices to the dealer and from dealer to farmer must align. Recording the dealer code helps reconcile both.
Spare parts list
List any spares supplied with the machine separately, because parts may have different headings and rates.
Chassis number for trailers
Agricultural trailers are registered with transport authorities in many states. Printing the chassis number on the invoice lets the buyer complete registration and links the trailer to its manufacturing record.

GST rules that matter for a agricultural implements manufacturer

Farm machinery in the 5% schedule

Notification 9/2025-Central Tax (Rate) lists agricultural, horticultural or forestry machinery for soil preparation or cultivation under 8432 and its parts, harvesting or threshing machinery under 8433 and its parts, other agricultural and poultry-keeping machinery under 8436, sprinklers, drip irrigation systems and mechanical sprayers under 8424, and self-loading or self-unloading trailers for agricultural purposes under 8716 20 00 in the 5% schedule. Tractors under 8701, except road tractors for semi-trailers above 1800 cc, are also at 5%. Machines for cleaning, sorting or grading eggs, fruit or produce under 8433 are carved into the 18% schedule, so read the headings carefully.

Parts and general-purpose items

Parts of 8432 and 8433 machines are included in their 5% entries. But general-purpose items sold with an implement, such as bearings, bolts, gearboxes and PTO shafts, may be classified in their own headings at 18% when sold separately as spares. Bill spares by their correct heading instead of applying the implement rate.

Trailers need care

Only self-loading or self-unloading trailers for agricultural purposes are listed at 5%. Other trailers and semi-trailers under 8716 remain at 18%. If you make both agricultural tipping trailers and general goods trailers, describe each product clearly and keep their invoices separate.

Subsidy sales and documentation

Farm mechanisation subsidies are commonly paid directly to the farmer or through the dealer after verification. GST is charged on the full transaction value of the implement; a subsidy paid by the government to the farmer does not reduce the taxable value of the sale unless it is a price reduction by the seller. Keep the scheme documents with the invoice.

Dealer network and invoices

Manufacturers sell mostly to dealers who resell to farmers. Each sale needs its own invoice, and the dealer's invoice to the farmer should reference the serial number from the manufacturer's invoice. Dealer schemes and discounts should be recorded on the invoice or through credit notes.

Common billing mistakes

  • Applying 5% to all trailers, including general goods trailers that are not self-loading agricultural trailers.
  • Billing spare bearings, gearboxes and fasteners at the implement rate instead of their own headings.
  • Reducing taxable value by subsidy amounts the government pays to the farmer.
  • Leaving serial numbers off invoices, which blocks subsidy verification and warranty claims.
  • Charging 18% on 8432 or 8433 machinery by habit after the September 2025 changes.
  • Leaving the chassis number off a trailer invoice, so the farmer cannot register the trailer with the transport office.

Agricultural implements manufacturer GST invoice: FAQ

What is the GST rate on rotavators and ploughs?

Soil preparation and cultivation machinery under heading 8432, including ploughs, harrows and rotavators, is listed at 5% from 22 September 2025.

Are tractors taxed at 5%?

Yes. Tractors under heading 8701 are in the 5% schedule, except road tractors for semi-trailers of engine capacity above 1800 cc, which are at 18%.

Does a farm subsidy reduce GST?

No. GST is charged on the transaction value. A subsidy paid by the government to the farmer does not reduce the value of the supply between manufacturer and buyer.

Are drip irrigation systems at 5%?

Sprinklers, drip irrigation systems including laterals, and mechanical sprayers under heading 8424 are listed in the 5% schedule.

How do I bill spare parts?

Spares of 8432 or 8433 machines generally share the machine's 5% entry. General-purpose items such as bearings or bolts keep their own headings when sold as spares.

Do I need an e-way bill to send implements to dealers?

Yes, when the consignment value exceeds ₹50,000, which most implement loads do. Note the serial numbers of the machines on the invoice so the dealer can match them with the e-way bill and the goods received.
